Greeting from holland

Hello people,

I'm Jorine and I'm a woman who lives in The Netherlands. 21 years ago. I was born in a town called Ede. My parents are still living there. In the weekend I also live over there, but during the week I go to Zwolle.
Zwolle (see the picture left) is the town where I study. Zwolle is an old town, built in the middle ages.
The city centre has still some walls around it, which were used in the past as walls of defense. Also the channel which they used for defense, is still there. If you see the picture, it's like a star! I love to live in this city. I'm close from all the shops, we have a theater, swimming pool, train station and a lot of sport accommodation. Everything is close from where I live in this city.

My study is about Psycho Motor Therapy. It sounds really difficult, but it's not that hard. As I can tell you, this study is about people with mental diseases and movement. I know a lot of mental diseases are only common in western countries. If people ask me what I will be after this study, I always tell them I will be like a psychologist. If you go to a psychologist, he or she will talk with you. It you go to a psycho motor therapist, he or she will do something with movement. By the way of moving, we try to make a difference in your way of acting and thinking. I really like this study, because it’s not only learning from the books b
ut also try thinks and have some practical lessons. Besides that, 2 days a week I go to a place where I practice my job. The school thinks I learn more by looking at professionals and work together with them to learn. I also like this way of learning. By getting experience, you remember the most. 3 days I have college and two 2 days of practice. The total of my study takes 4 years. After that I can find a job or study again for a master. I hope I can study again! (if I have enough money.. haha). Most students work in the weekend (Saturday or Sunday). They work in a supermarket, in a shop, as a cleaner or in a restaurant. I work in a restaurant as a waitress. I love to do this, because the restaurant is in a museum (The Kröller Müller Museum, one of the most famous museum in Holland). I always meet new people and also a lot of people from other countries.

Last semester at school, I chose to study in Indonesia. Indonesia is a lovely country and I really want to go back. I have been in Indonesia for 4 months. Together with 3 other Dutch people, we taught at schools for disabled children. We were like a coach for the teachers, to help them to give better gymnastic lessons. I really liked to get in contact with the children and to play with them. The teachers learned a lot from us, but I also learned a lot from them! Mostly things about culture. Because Indonesian culture is really different from the Dutch culture. I will tell you some typical Dutch things. Dutch people are always in a hurry. They are always on time and it’s not polite to call or sms during a conversation. Besides that we always eat with
knife and fork.
In the morning and for lunch we eat bread and at diner we eat potatoes, with vegetables and meat.
Most people work from 08.00 till 17.00, 5 days a week. Around 18.00 everyone has diner, mostly with the whole family together. We have winter, spring, summer and autumn. In winter we have snow and it’s under 0 degrees, during summer time it’s around 20 till 30 degrees.

The religion in Holland is very different. Sometimes people call Holland multi-cultural. Most people are Christian in here, but because also a lot of Turk and Moroccan people live in Holland, we also have Muslim. But also Jewish and more religions are here all together in Holland. The only problem is, that people always fight about it. I really regret this and if some young Turkish people do some criminal activity, people say immediately that those ‘Muslims’ are wrong. Too bad that people can’t see the difference between religion and culture.. because they don’t know for sure if they are Muslim and the think all Muslims are like that. I’m glad to know better than that, because when I was in Indonesia, almost all of my friends where Muslim and I love them [smile].

Holland has a lot of water, rivers but also sea. I like it really much, because in the summer I always go with a small sailing ship around the north of my country. I also teach children how to sail. If you come to Holland, you definitely have to try it. The country is really flat, no mountains in here. A lot of farmers and grass fields. And because it’s flat, it’s easy to use a bicycle. It’s easy and cheap, so a lot of people use it. Still we have a lot of traffic jams with cars, at the highway which people use to go to work..

If you come to Holland, don’t forget to try to eat ‘Pannenkoeken’ (it’s a kind of pancakes) and ‘stampot’ (potatoes with vegetables) and visit the Kröller Müller Museum (haha, my boss will be happy with free advertisement,… joking).

I hope you got a bit a few of Holland and about me.
Thank you!
Groetjes (greetings)
Jorine
